Avoid Anything that BLASTS

By

Have you ever noticed how some words become “buzz” words? Some of these words are good and some of them just raise red flags. The “blast” word is one that should raise major red flags for you.

The dictionary defines the word “blast” as: “a sudden and violent gust of wind” or “the blowing of a trumpet, whistle, etc.” or “a loud, sudden sound or noise” or “a forcible stream of air from the mouth, bellows, or the like.” Sometimes the word “blast” means “a vigorous outburst of criticism; attack.”

None of those definitions are very appealing or positive, are they? So when you see the word “blast” in an advertisement you should feel a little uneasy.

There are many companies on the Internet that use the word “blast” in advertisements for their services. You can find advertisements that advocate “Massive Ad Blast” or “Blast Podcasts” or “Fax Blast” or “Email Blast Advertising” or “Blast Directory Submissions” and a host of others.

Why avoid blasts? Isn’t getting your site listed in 500 directories in a day for only $50 a good thing?

In short…

Absolutely not!

Search engines like Google don’t like websites that use automated processes to get their domain name posted across the Internet. The search engines don’t want their search engine results to be manipulated, so they actually monitor the development of links to your website.

They expect to see links to your site grow naturally over time. When they see hundreds or thousands of links to your site spring up overnight, it sets off alarm bells and you may be penalized by having your site ranking decrease. Sometimes the results can be devastating.

When something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. So be careful of promises of having your website name blasted far and wide across the Internet. The promises can be very seductive, but the techniques that “blast” companies are using might just blow up in your face.

So defuse potential problems before they arise and avoid companies that use the word “blast” in their company names or in their advertising promises.
